Culture & History

The Louvre

The world's largest art museum. Yes, the Mona Lisa is small and crowded. Don't miss the apartments of Napoleon III or the wing of sculptures.

• Tip: Enter via the Carrousel du Louvre shopping mall entrance to avoid the long pyramid lines.
• Time: 3-4 hours minimum.

Musée d'Orsay

Located in a stunning converted railway station, this museum houses the world's best collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces (Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir).

• Tip: Head straight to the 5th floor (Impressionist gallery) and work your way down.

Eiffel Tower

The iron lady. Seeing it sparkle at night (on the hour, for 5 mins) is magic.

• Tip: For the best photo, go to Trocadéro across the river at sunrise. For the best view OF the tower, go to the top of the Arc de Triomphe.

Explore the culinary history of this village. Try artisan cheeses, charcuterie, and pastries.

Covered Passages (Passages Couverts)

Built in the 19th century, these glass-roofed shopping arcades are full of antique shops, cute cafes, and history. Gallery Vivienne is the most famous.

Nature & Outdoors

Luxembourg Gardens

The favorite park of Parisians. Grab a green metal chair, sit by the central pond, and watch children push vintage sailboats.

Seine River Cruise

It might seem cheesy, but seeing Paris from the water (especially at sunset) is breathtaking. The "Batobus" is a hop-on-hop-off option that doubles as transport.

Day Trips

Palace of Versailles

The ultimate symbol of royal opulence. The Hall of Mirrors is blindingly gold. The extensive gardens are just as impressive as the château.

Giverny (Monet's House)

Visit the actual lily ponds that inspired Monet's famous paintings. Open Spring to Autumn.
