Things to Do in Barcelona

Gaudí's architecture, sandy beaches, and vibrant markets. Discover the essential Barcelona experiences.

Things to Do in Barcelona

Barcelona is synonymous with Antoni Gaudí, but there is much more to the city than Modernisme.

Gaudí & Modernisme

Sagrada Família

Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece. The exterior is awe-inspiring, but the interior forest of columns bathed in stained-glass light is spiritual.

  • Tip: Book tickets at least 2 weeks in advance. It sells out constantly.

Park Güell

A public park system composed of gardens and architectonic elements located on Carmel Hill.

  • Tip: Accessing the Monumental Zone requires a ticket. The views over the city are spectacular.

Casa Batlló

The "House of Bones" on Passeig de Gràcia. The roof looks like the back of a dragon.

Culture & History

Gothic Quarter Walk

Get lost in the narrow streets. Visit the Barcelona Cathedral (look for the geese in the cloister) and Plaça Reial.

Picasso Museum

Housed in five adjoining medieval palaces in El Born, it houses one of the most extensive collections of artworks by Pablo Picasso.

Food & Markets

La Boqueria

One of the world's most famous markets, right off La Rambla.

  • Tip: It's very touristy. For a more local vibe, try Mercat de Santa Caterina in El Born or Mercat de Sant Antoni.

Tapas Crawl

Go to Carrer de Blai in Poble Sec for cheap and cheerful pinchos, or roam the streets of El Born for upscale tapas bars.

Nature & Outdoors

Barceloneta Beach

The city's main beach. Great for a quick dip or a drink at a chiringuito (beach bar), but can be crowded.

Montjuïc Hill

Take the cable car up for the castle, gardens, and Olympic stadium. The Magic Fountain show at the base is a classic evening activity (check schedule).
