Culture & History

Senso-ji Temple (Asakusa)

Tokyo's oldest and most significant Buddhist temple. Enter through the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) and walk down Nakamise-dori, a shopping street filled with traditional snacks and souvenirs.

• Time: 1-2 hours
• Cost: Free (temple grounds)
• Tip: Go efficiently early (before 9 AM) or late at night (after 8 PM) to avoid the massive crowds. The temple is lit up beautifully at night.

Meiji Jingu Shrine

A serene Shinto shrine located in a massive forest right next to Harajuku. It's dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. The towering torii gates are impressive.

• Cost: Free (Inner Garden has a small fee)

Imperial Palace

The primary residence of the Emperor of Japan. While you can't enter the private grounds usually, the East Gardens are open to the public and offer beautiful landscaping and history.

Modern Art & Views

teamLab Planets TOKYO

An immersive digital art museum where you walk barefoot through water and crystal lights. It's incredibly photogenic and a unique sensory experience.

Shibuya Crossing

The world's busiest pedestrian crossing. Join the scramble when the lights turn green, then head up to the Magnet by Shibuya 109 rooftop or Shibuya Sky for a bird's-eye view.

Tokyo Skytree

The tallest tower in Japan. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Mount Fuji.

Food & Dining Experiences

Tsukiji Outer Market

Although the inner wholesale market moved to Toyosu, the outer market is still buzzing with stalls selling fresh sushi, tamagoyaki (egg omelet), and wagyu beef.

• Best time: Morning (8 AM - 1 PM)

Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane)

A narrow alleyway in Shinjuku packed with tiny yakitori stalls. It feels post-war and atmospheric. Great for a drink and grilled chicken skewers.

Day Trips

Hakone

Famous for hot springs (onsen), views of Mt. Fuji, and the volcanic Owakudani valley. Accessible by the Romancecar train from Shinjuku.

Kamakura

Known as the "Kyoto of Eastern Japan." Home to the Great Buddha (Daibutsu) and lovely seaside views.
