Day 1: The Old City
Focus: Alfama & Baixa
Morning
Start at Comércio Square by the river. Walk through the arch up into Baixa. Take the elevators (free) up to the castle area. Visit Castelo de São Jorge.
Afternoon
Get lost in Alfama. It's all downhill from the castle. Stop at Miradouro de Santa Luzia (beautiful tiled view).
Evening
Dinner in Alfama followed by a Fado show. It's touristic, but "Clube de Fado" is reliable quality.
Day 2: The Age of Discovery
Focus: Belém
Morning
Take the train or tram 15 to Belém. Go straight to Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. It opens at 10 AM, queue is huge.
Afternoon
Buy Pasteis de Belém (custard tarts). Eat them in the park. Visit the Belém Tower and Discoveries Monument.
Evening
Head back to the city. Watch the sunset from Miradouro de Santa Catarina (Adamastor) with a beer. Dinner at Time Out Market.
Day 3: Modern Lisbon
Focus: Chiado, Príncipe Real, Bairro Alto
Morning
Shop in Chiado. Visit the Carmo Convent (ruins from the earthquake).
Afternoon
Walk up to Príncipe Real. Shop in the Embaixada concept store. Relax in the botanical garden.
Evening
Dinner in a trendy spot in Príncipe Real (try A Cevicheria if you can wait). End the night bar-hopping in Bairro Alto or on Pink Street.
